JP Duminy pulls out of IPL for ‘personal reasons’ – South African all-rounder JP Duminy who was expected to be playing from Delhi Daredevils franchise has now withdrawn himself from IPL 2017. JP Duminy who is a key member of Delhi Daredevils informed the franchise on Monday, 20th March 2017; 16 days before IPL starts. This is a big blow for Delhi Daredevils. There was no specific reason given behind the withdrawal by Duminy as well as by the franchise. Since both did not elaborate on this decision, it is understood that Duminy wanted to focus on the upcoming South African schedule. South Africa are currently playing a test series in New Zealand and also are scheduled to play England in 3 match ODI series followed by ICC Champions Trophy.
During the press conference, Duminy said,
“It has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but it was for purely personal reasons. I certainly hope to play a part for the franchise in the near future.”
This is a huge blow for a team which is still hunting its first IPL trophy. Losing JP Duminy at last moment must have hurt the Delhi franchise as well as fans. Duminy is the fifth highest scorer for Delhi Daredevils. He has managed to score 1015 runs in 38 matches at the strike rate of over 130. (Also Read: Delhi Daredevils Team Squad)

Delhi Daredevils also need to worry about Angelo Mathews who was bought in the auction for 2 crores is suffering from a hamstring injury. Mathews injured his hamstring during 2nd T20 International against South Africa in January. Corey Anderson, Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins were Daredevils’ other overseas signings at the auction.
