Indian Opener KL Rahul Opts out of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 – Indian Opener & Karnataka boy has admitted that his chances of playing upcoming ICC event are very slim due to the injury sustained during Test match series against Australia. KL Rahul was a key member of Indian squad during the India-Australia Test series. KL Rahul played a huge role in India’s 2-1 win over Australia. KL Rahul had sustained the injury in the opening Test in Pune but played with pain in remaining test matches.
Currently, KL Rahul has been sidelined from Indian Premier League due to a shoulder injury. KL Rahul has been an important part of RCB squad. He is also one of the high scorers for RCB. So it has certainly hurt RCB and is expected to hurt the national team as well. It will be interesting to see who will replace KL Rahul in the Indian squad. Shikhar Dhawan who was man of the series in previous edition of ICC Champions Trophy could prove to be a handy replacement.
While talking with Times of India, KL Rahul quoted
I will just have to wait and see but the chances are very, very slim. They said it will take anywhere close to 2 to 3 months. But again, it depends, each body is different, you don’t know how the body recovers. It is totally up to me and how I well I take care of myself in the rehab phase. For now, it is just 2-3 weeks of relaxing and not doing anything and after that maybe I will start physiotherapy and my rehab phase will start from there.
The ICC Champions Trophy starts is scheduled to start from June 1. India will kick off their campaign from 4th June versus Pakistan.
